The ecology & biodiversity of Connemara are just a couple of the things that help make the region so beautiful & unique. A new festival in Letterfrack this June 20th & 21st aims to raise awareness of this ecology and help raise funds for biodiversity actions. The festival includes an ecology walk linking the national park to the seashore, pond dipping, a talk on the history of Letterfrack & a Leave No Trace workshop. There will also be Kayaking & Stand Up paddle boarding available throughout the Saturday and a number of associated events on the Sunday.
The evening events will be a celebration of the local & organic produce as well as the summer solstice – The Green Feast. This is a 6 course tasting menu starting in the national park and winding through the village, enjoying a course in each of the local hostilities. Tickets for this unique festival meal, celebrating the great local produce and food in the village, are just €35 each and can be purchased online here – http://theecologycentre.ie/order-page/. The night will be finished off with a bonfire & chants to welcome in the summer solistice.
All profits from the meal will go towards creating a trail which will connect the Connemara National Park to the village of Letterfrack and to the sea. This new walk will be opened through normally inaccessible park lands and privately owned land to Ballinakill Bay.
Most of the activities over the weekend are free of charge & suitable for children and families. You can check out the full timetable here – http://theecologycentre.ie/connemaragreenfestival/
