Maam Cross Sheep and Cattle Mart

There sheep sale is held every Saturday and begins at 11am. They have large amounts of blackface sheep and crossbreds with few texels, suffolks, etc. They pride ourselves with having large amounts genuine Connemara/Mayo mountain sheep. The sheep sale is on Saturdays all year around.

They hold  weekly cattle sales on Saturdays after the sheep sales at approximately 12:30 pm. Maam Cross Mart pride themselves in having genuine cattle from North Mayo to South Connemara and beyond.  Cows lead our sale, followed by bulls, heifers and heifer weanlings, bullocks, and bull weanlings. As the year goes on and numbers get bigger, they move the cattle sale to Monday evenings. This usually occurs in late July.

Monthly horse sales from April to December. Maam Cross stands as the gateway to Connemara and as such, we have genuine Connemara pony for sale. The Connemara breed is world renowned and has a great reputation and being located where we are, we have our sale on the first Friday of every month starting April 6th. Every Friday morning, the town of Clifden comes alive to the sounds of rattling metal poles, the popping of tents and the chatter of the street traders that all come together to form the farmers’ market on the aptly named Market Square.

The Clifden Farmer’s Market has a wide variety of producers selling their fresh produce to the general public. Be sure to arrive early, as most of the produce and stalls are gone by noon There’s a good selection of organic vegetables, homemade breads, pies, herbs, fruits, flowers, plants and some clothing.

16 Local Connemara “Celebrities” from a variety of groups and organisations have been selected and are going to learn how to sean nós dance in the coming weeks. They will perform on the night and audience voting will take place for each celebrity and the person with the most votes win! Admission is only 5 euros and its 1 euro a vote on the night. All funds raised will go towards Clifden Comhaltas events for 2017.

There will be lots of young sean nos dancers also performing on the night and local groups of young and older musicians will also entertain. So mark your diaries, Saturday 11th March 2017 at 9pm

Biking Blitz at Derroura @ Derroura Mountain Bike Trail

The 7th edition of the exciting Biking Blitz Series kicks off  with events taking place in Wicklow, Limerick, Galway #Connemara and Dublin. The Biking Blitz is a mass start cross country mountain bike event, aimed primarily at beginners but with something for everyone. There are series points up for grabs at each event, with an overall series devised from your best three results from any four events. There are two categories, “Baggy Shorts” for beginners or “Super Pro” for more experienced riders, plus youth categories from U8 to U18. Mountain bike trail centres are used exclusively for these events to ensure a fast flowing course in all weather conditions. So saddle up for the first time or put your training to the test at the 2015 Biking Blitz.

Only Senior riders need to enter online. Youths and Juniors enter on the day of the event.

Categories
Baggy Shorts Category- 1 full lap, 16km ( 1 hour approximate winning time)

Super Pro Category- 2 full laps, 32km (1 hour 40mins approximate winning time)
