National Park Hike @ Connemara National Park
Sep 27 @ 11:15 am

A moderate four-five hour hike in the Connemara National Park from the village of Letterfrack. Going beyond the Diamond Trail into the Glanmore valley, towards the isolated Pooladirk river and the remains of a beautiful settlement below Bulog. Passing ancient pre-bog Scots Pine tree stumps, before visiting a megalithic (court) tomb and a spectacular wood. Distance is about 10km with about 400m of ascent, including some steep climbing and descents. Terrain includes rough/uneven open hillside (long grass, bog, rock), stone steps, trail, and surfaced minor road. Requires strong boots with good ankle support and outdoor layers (preferably waterproof jacket/trousers, fleece, hat gloves) along with a good level of fitness. Costs €50/person with places currently available. The weather is generally showery with moderate-fresh wind.

Maumahoge Mountain Lake @ Lough Inagh Valley
Oct 21 all-day

A three-four hour hike up to a mountain pass with a spectacular lake in the wild Maumturks range. Features a stunning mountain valley, with streams and a waterfall, leading up to the pass with the large corrie lake overlooked by dramatic peaks and with views beyond into the adjacent valley and to distant ranges (12 Bens, Joyce Country, Mweelrea, Maumtrasna). Strong mountain boots with ankle support are necessary for the uneven terrain of bog, steep open hillside and rocky lakeside. The distance is about 4km with 400m of total ascent so a reasonable level of fitness is required along with outdoor layers (preferably waterproof jacket/trousers, fleece, hat, gloves), food and water. Costs €45/person, guaranteed to proceed with a couple of places currently available. The weather generally showery and windy.

Leenane Mountain Walking Festival @ Leenane, Connemara, Co. Galway
Apr 28 all-day

Enjoy a unique combination of mountain and sea as Leenane is situated on the edge of Killary Harbour and surrounded by mountains in all directions. This April will be the 9th year of the Leenane Mountain Walking Festival which has become a major event on the events calendar for Connemara and the area. The 2017 event will take place on from the 28th April – 1st May bank Holiday.

This great festival has been designed to suit all levels of walkers from casual low level walks to the more experienced! Each day there is a choice of at least 3 walks from Strenuous to low level plus an archaeology fieldtrip on the Sunday. This year the programme includes: Mweelrea, Ben Gorm, Derryclare Horseshoe, 12 Bens, Connemara National Park & The Killary Famine Trail.

Each walk is guided by qualified, experienced guides and covered by public insurance. Another unique element of the festival is that the local farmers get involved with guiding the walks and share their vast knowledge, folklore and history of the land.

With the farmers involvement in the event, they kindly grant the participants permission to cross their lands and visit areas that are not normally open to the public. Transport to and from starting and finishing points will be provided as well as tea/coffee & scones at various local businesses at the end of each day.

We will have details of the Friday nights entertainment closer to the event but there will be a Table Quiz on the Saturday, and the weekend will finish with a Céili on the Sunday evening! Keep an eye here and on Facebook as we will keep you updated!
