Clifden Traditional Music Festival @ Clifden

Clifden Traditional Music Festival Clifden Co. Galway – 6th – 9th April

Highlights will include: Tune Composition Competition on the Thursday of the festival at 8pm in the Alcock and brown hotel.

Official Opening and Concert in the Clifden Station House Theatre on Friday 6th April at 7pm. It will feature a host of artists from all over Ireland .

Saturday starts with music workshops in Fiddle, Button Accordion, and Concertina from 10am until 12.30pm.
Tutors will be announced mid february.

Music Sessions are a very big part of the festival and again this year feature a host of champion musicians from all over Ireland. Music sessions will take place all over the town on Friday night, Saturday Afternoon, Saturday night and Sunday afternoon. Musicians already confirmed include: Cian Kearins (Flute), Niamh O Sullivan(Concertina), Rachel Masterson (Piano), George McAdam (Banjo), Colin McGill (Piano Accordion), Rory Healy(Fiddle), Plunkett O Toole (Flute), Caoimhe Kearins(Singer), Michael Curran (Accordion), Paul Clesham (Concertina),Graham Guerin (Accordion, James Duggan (Fiddle),, Geraldine O Callaghan (Fiddle), John Bass(Accordion, Pat Bass(Banjo) Mark McCrystal (Piano), and many more…!

A big highlight of the festival this year will be the outdoor gig on Market Square on the Saturday night featuring ‘Socks in the Frying Pan’

Other highlights to watch out for will be Street Entertainment around the town with stilt walkers, face painters, jugglers etc a busking competition, and a 5K Run!

The inaugural Inishbofin Maritime Festival will take place on the weekend of August 12-14 this year. This weekend will expand on the successes of the recently rejuvenated Inishbofin Currach Regatta, extending the programme to include yachts, púcáns, sailing dinghies and much more! There will also be heritage demonstrations, build-your-own raft races, the finest of fresh island seafood and lots of great music and entertainment.

Full details will be made available soon, as the Festival is currently being worked on. However, be sure not to miss what promises to be an incredible weekend of all that is best about Inishbofin’s seafaring heritage!
