Join ecologist and foraging enthusiast, Marie Louise Heffernan, on a “Seaweed Walk” along Connemara’s Wild Atlantic Way.Find how to track the Otter that lives close to the beach, discover shellfish middens and evidence of neolithic man.Strolling along the strand, wellied and waterproofed walkers will have the opportunity to identify marine life in one of Ireland’s most beautiful coastlines. This is a unique opportunity to taste seaweed straight off the beach…discovering wonderful recipes for seaweeds and coastal plants.

Mweelrea Mountain Hike @ Mweelrea

A difficult five-eight hour hike to the tallest mountain in Connaught. Features dramatic rocks, spectacular scenery including mountains, beach, bog and coastline and including the ancient burial cairn purported to be of Diarmuid O Duibhne (who fled with Grainne on the eve of her wedding to Fionn MacCumhail). Distance is about 10km with about 800m of climbing. Rocky terrain includes steep open hillside, wet bog, sheep track and long grass. Requires very good fitness and strong walking boots with good ankle support, along with food, water and outdoor layers (waterproof jacket/trousers, fleece, hat, gloves. The Long-term weather is forecast suggests it will be mostly dry with occasional light showers and a fresh westerly wind and bright spells possible

National Park Hike @ Connemara National Park

A moderate four-five hour hike in the Connemara National Park from the village of Letterfrack. Going beyond the Diamond Trail into the Glanmore valley, towards the isolated Pooladirk river and the remains of a beautiful settlement below Bulog. Passing ancient pre-bog Scots Pine tree stumps, before visiting a megalithic (court) tomb and a spectacular wood. Distance is about 10km with about 400m of ascent, including some steep climbing and descents. Terrain includes rough/uneven open hillside (long grass, bog, rock), stone steps, trail, and surfaced minor road. Requires strong boots with good ankle support and outdoor layers (preferably waterproof jacket/trousers, fleece, hat gloves) along with a good level of fitness. Costs €50/person with places currently available. The weather is generally showery with moderate-fresh wind.

Roundstone Bog Adventure Hike @ Roundstone Bog

A moderate and gentle four-six hour hike of the spectacular Roundstone Bog complex. A very special walk. Features extensive rare bog habitat, quaking bog, a multitude of lakes and includes the historic Derrygimla site where ground breaking transatlantic communications took place (Marconi’s wireless telegraphy, Alcock & Brown’s flight landing spot). Distance is about 10km with some gentle climbing. Terrain is mainly very rough wet bogland, along with sheep track, long grass and surfaced minor road; requires waterproof boots with good ankle support and grip. Also bring some food, water and outdoor layers. Costs euro 40/person with places currently available for booking in advance. Involves a car drop as this is a linear walk.

Maumeen to Maumahoige Mountain Hike @ Maamturk Mountains

Distance is about 13km with about 1100m of total climbing (two hard climbs and some steep descents). Terrain includes rocky mountain tops, steep open hillside, wet bog, sheep track and surfaced road. Requires a high level of fitness, a head for heights, and strong walking boots with good ankle support and multi-layer outdoor clothes (including waterproof jacket/pants, fleece, hat, gloves) plus, food and water. Costs €80/person and (3 places currently available). The weather is generally showery and windy.

Glencorbett Mountain Horseshoe Hike @ Glencorbett

Requires a high level of fitness, a head for heights, and strong walking boots with good ankle support and multi-layer outdoor clothes (including waterproof jacket/pants, fleece, hat, gloves) plus, food and water. Costs €80/person (3 places currently available). The weather is generally showery and windy.
