Gaelforce West is the largest one day adventure race of its kind in the world. It is a multi-sport adventure race involving cycling, running, hiking and kayaking. The course of approximately 67km stretches from the stunning Glassilaun beach to Westport. En route there are some significant obstacles to cross, including Killary Harbour and the famous holy mountain of Croagh Patrick. The event is designed for solo competitors, but you can run it with a buddy or training partner.
Marie Cadden was born in Devon, reared in Malahide, Co. Dublin and in Cheshire. Since 1977 she has lived in Spiddal, Co. Galway. Her debut poetry collection, ‘Gynaecologist in the Jacuzzi’ which has recently been published by Salmon Press has been described as ‘both sassy and sensuous’. She has worked as a teacher of children with autism, teacher of the deaf, play therapist. This has enabled Marie to deliver her poetry with style, humour bite. These are poems of hope, enchantment, disenchantment and acceptance.
John Liddy (1954) was born in County Cork, grew up in Limerick, resides in Madrid and took a degree with the University of Wales. He is the founding editor, along with Jim Burke, of The Stony Thursday Book and has published many collections of poetry in English and his most recent book is The Secret Heart of Things.
Poet, songwriter and dramatist, Peter Mullineaux, will read from his new collection of poetry called “Small Hungers and Scary Movies”. Pete’s work has been featured on RTE’s Arena and been described as ‘tender & lyrical’. Poet and writer, Ger Reidy who will also be reading at the festival, has won several national poetry competitions, has been published in many literary journals and has read at numerous literary festivals including the Cúirt Festival in Galway in 2010.
